Fasting for a predetermined period of time, shortening the eating window. Popular IF protocols include daily 16 hour fasts with 8 hour feeding windows, or weekly 24 hour fasts. Less of a “diet,” more of a philosophy. You can combine damn near any diet with a practice of intermittent fasting, be it Paleo, Primal, vegan, vegetarian, Bulletproof, Standard American, or anything between.

These cashew butter balls are made raw so you don’t have to bake them. They’re ready to eat after just an hour in the fridge. The good thing is that you can make many of them at once, and just eat them a bit at a time as you go through your week. Having snacks made ahead of time is really helpful when you’re trying to stick to any diet plan. These are so simple to make it’s just dates, cashews and cashew butter. Roll it into a ball and cool it off and they’re ready to nosh.
I have been a chef for many years and had to go paleo due to health issues so I felt like I was missing out on cookies! I have to say these were the best choc chip gluten free cookies I have ever eaten felt like I was eating gluten cookies if not better! I followed the recipe to the letter I used unrefined coconut oil but I just wanted to ask what type of coconut oil do you use for this recipe refined or unrefined? Also can you use less coconut sugar? I love them as they are just thought to ask for other people sake some like less sweet things :) thanks a ton for this recipe your a blessing :)
This Caprese-style salad is a great Paleo snack when you have just-right produce or an abundance of basil to use up. You’ll substitute mozzarella for creamy avocado loaded on fresh tomato slices. Top each tomato with basil, drizzle with balsamic vinegar and oil and enjoy. This one is great to enjoy while sitting outdoors enjoying a hot summer night.
Next up, maple syrup. Select the darkest grade of maple syrup you can find for the best flavor. The darker the syrup, the more impurities it contains. Now, I know, that impurities sounds like a bad thing. For syrup, it isn’t. It just means the syrup is more flavorful. For years, this syrup was called “Grade B”. Now, it’s usually called “Grade A Dark.” The name Grade B was phased out because the name “grade B” lead some people to think that it was of lesser quality than “grade A” syrups.
Traditionally I’m not a huge fan of using several different gluten free flours in one recipes. I want the ingredients to be both accessible and have many different uses. So far, almond and coconut flour have become my go-tos (especially when it comes to paleo baking). If you find yourself looking for more recipes like these cookies, feel free to check out my paleo and grain free recipe categories!
The Primal Blueprint leaves room for legumes in close moderation, but those on a paleo diet tend to steer clear of them. Like nuts and seeds, legumes contain anti-nutrients like lectins, phytates and saponins. Unlike nuts and seeds, however, legumes tend to be consumed in large quantities, potentially preventing your body from absorbing sufficient nutrients for optimum health.
Don’t feel bad that you can’t have Doritos now that you’re on Paleo, you just have to come up with snacks that aren’t bad for you. These chips use a mixture of coconut flour and almond flour, and have flax seed baked right in so you’re getting a fair bit of nutrition along with your snack. These make great dipping instruments for salsa, guacamole, or any Mexican-inspired dip. They won’t be short on flavor with all of the butter and spices they’re using, so you won’t feel like you’re missing out or stuck eating “health food”. Who knows, you might even end up preferring these.
This is a cute snack that can help you cool off on a hot summer day or night, and won’t impact your Paleo eating one bit. That’s because it uses just two ingredients in this sandwich, so it’s just a matter of cutting them up and eating them. The way they’ve presented it makes it a great party dish, because who doesn’t like eating things off of toothpicks. The trickiest part is getting the cucumbers and watermelon to be cut into the same sized squares so that they look good. If you’re just making a snack for yourself you don’t have to be so exact.
Like plantain chips, kale chips are also a smart Paleo snack (and a healthier version of potato chips). Kale has a ton of health benefits and is full of vitamins and antioxidants. While plantain chips are smaller and hard to scoop, kale chips go great with dips, like guacamole or salsa, because of their larger sheet-like size. They are very easy to make at home but can also be found at most grocery stores nationwide. Need more reasons to add kale to your diet? Here are five ways kale fights off obesity, cancers, and diseases.
Funny thing about those macaroons? If not made with the correct type of coconut flakes, they become… just the thing you did not expect. Which can be quite a bit disappointing. See, if you make those macaroons with these small coconut flakes, you’ll make the most delightfully round, thick, and perfectly tall macaroons. But if you use large coconut flakes, they go flat. Like a thick, delicious pancake that’s actually a cookie. Made out of coconut.
Nuts and seeds are rather popular snacks for both Paleo and non-Paleo eaters. If you aren’t careful, you can end up consuming quite a few of them because of their ease and convenience. There’s also a whole host of health benefits you can get from nuts and seeds as most are loaded with nutrients. With high levels of antioxidants, nuts are cardio-protective and seeds on are packed with dietary fiber. There are quite a few flavorful alternatives, sweet or savory, to consider as an alternative to your spoonful of nut butter or your handful of almonds. Here’s a list of sweet and salty recipes to keep your tastebuds guessing and prevent boredom:
Almond flour: Almond flour can often usually be replaced successfully with raw cashew flour. If you need to make these almond flour chocolate chip cookies nut-free, you can try replacing the almond flour with sunflower seed flour. They may take on a greenish tint, though, as the baking soda will activate the chlorophyll in the sunflower seeds, but it’s harmless.
Although not all of these are strict paleo (some contain coconut sugar and other paleo-friendly sweeteners), they are free from refined sugars, dairy, and grains. Stash them in your desk at work, hide them in your glove compartment, or place them in your purse. That way, you have a paleo-friendly snack always within reach and won’t be tempted to go off plan. And while you stock up on these favorite finds, be sure to check out our list of The 14 Best & Worst Weight-Loss Paleo Foods.
Delicious – followed the recipe exactly only mine did not go down flat. Perhaps the nut butter was a bit dry? Anyhow, when I checked on the first tray they were still very perky and round so I quickly smooshed them with a fork and they were a bit cracked but held together well and were tasty. For the second batch, pressed them first with a fork and they puffed up nicely leaving classic peanut butter cookie marks. Will definitely make again.
Assortment of paleo foodThe Paleo diet is the healthiest way you can eat because it is the ONLY nutritional approach that works with your genetics to help you stay lean, strong and energetic! Research in biology, biochemistry, Ophthalmology, Dermatology and many other disciplines indicate it is our modern diet, full of refined foods, trans fats and sugar, that is at the root of degenerative diseases such as obesity, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, depression and infertility.
Hi! This might seem like an odd question, but do you think I could bake / cook these on an electric griddle? 5 mins, then a flip and 5 mins more? I am thinking to try this at preschool and want a recipe that will cater to all children, with respect to food allergies / sensitivities or parents nutritional wishes. We don’t have an oven, just the electric griddle pan. Thoughts?
Unless you’ve been living under a (ahem, Paleolithic) rock, you’ve heard about the paleo diet. The diet may lead to weight loss in the short term, as well as lower blood pressure, controlled blood sugar, and other possible benefits. (1, 2) So it’s no surprise that this eating approach has gained popularity since the publication in 2010 of the hit book The Paleo Diet, authored by Loren Cordain, PhD, a professor emeritus at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins and the founder of the paleo diet movement.
Sure, there's a bit of debate as to whether true Paleo-ers can have foods like chocolate (which is made with milk solids and sugar). As articulated on Paleo Leap, an online resource for all things Paleo, "In the true sense of whether our Paleolithic ancestors enjoyed [foods like chocolate], the answer is almost always no, but the real question we should ask ourselves is whether they are healthy when consumed in moderation." In essence, it's up to the individual to decide whether or not to include chocolate in their nutritional regime. Paleo-ers who do say yes to chocolate often choose the dark variety -- it tends to be less processed and lower in sugar.
