When we go to the movies, I find myself always bringing healthier snacks. That’s probably not much of a surprise though. Every once in awhile we will splurge on the movie popcorn, but usually I have a purse packed with my favorite coconut oil and sea salt popcorn plus a few of these paleo chocolate chip cookies. Guys, they are RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. Think addicting, thick, chewy and full of melted dark chocolate puddles.
Hello. This was my first time making a paleo/gf cookie. They came out pretty tasty but are a little too coconut-y for my liking (I think maybe I used too much coconut oil, which I will adjust next time). However, something might have been off with my dough overall b/c it was brown in color, not light like yours. Maybe I just need to use a little more almond flour & a little less coconut sugar, but I welcome any thoughts/suggestions you have. I will definitely be trying again. Thanks!
This snack has Paleo written all over it. It has just the essential ingredients needed for a fried almond snack, and they’ve made this incredibly simple to follow. Almonds are one of the healthiest nuts you can eat, but sometimes they can get a little boring. By frying them you immediately improve the taste, and since they have you frying them in a Paleo approved oil you will be staying on the Paleo path. Rosemary is an herb that really goes nicely with almonds, but the ghee steals the show in terms of taste, giving the almonds a nice buttery flavor.
These skittles are made totally with fruit or vegetables and coconut butter. It’s the combination of the fruits and veggies that make them so good. The recipes for all 7 different flavors are included. The ingredients listed above for maroon consist of all the ingredients. The other colors only have the ingredients listed that are not included in the maroon variety. All you need is a good blender and a food dehydrator. Although I have dried fruits in the oven before. The oven is faster but necessarily better. Just turn it on the lowest heat possible. I put links to two different dehydrators because one is way more affordable than the other. I have the cheap one and it works fine. But if you think you might use it a lot it might be worth the investment to get the more expensive one. Since the skittles are dried they can be stored at room temperature for a long time. That makes them handy to keep in your purse or bag for a time. I’ve also been known to freeze. dried foods and they keep just fine for a really long time.

Larabar is another bar made from simple ingredients but also higher in the sugar department. That’s because the sugar is the all-natural kind from dates. The other ingredients are just as simple: almonds, unsweetened apples, walnuts, raisins, and cinnamon—super clean and also incredibly tasty. We recommend these before a workout when your body needs more simple carbohydrates for quick energy.
It stuck because I really think of these as the world’s easiest cookies. To make a batch, all you do is combine almond flour, baking powder, maple syrup, and vanilla extract in a large bowl and stir. That’s it! No butter, no eggs, no chilling the dough (or rolling it out). You just need four ingredients and a little elbow grease. After about 10 minutes of baking, you’re rewarded with macaron-flavored cookies that are crisp on the edges and chewy in the center.
They say that low-fat weight-loss diets have proved in clinical trials and real life to be dismal failures, and that on top of it all, the percentage of fat in the American diet has been decreasing for two decades. Our cholesterol levels have been declining, and we have been smoking less, and yet the incidence of heart disease has not declined as would be expected. ”That is very disconcerting,” Willett says. ”It suggests that something else bad is happening.”
2017 Update: these Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookies are the BOMB, and one of my favorite/your favorite recipes on the site. You guys seriously LOVE this one, and I don’t blame you. They’re so good. But…they also needed a photo update, so I’m republishing the post with the new photos! Unfortunately, I’m long out of college, but leaving the original post written below for nostalgia’s sake. Enjoy!!

Edible seaweeds are too often overlooked on a Paleo diet, but they boast an unparalleled nutritional profile. Among many essential nutrients, most kinds of seaweeds are loaded with iodine, an essential trace element to life. Iodine is especially important for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland. For most people on a SAD diet, the only reliable source of iodine is iodized salt. Many people on a Paleo diet decide to shun added salt completely or to consume unrefined sea salt instead of regular iodized table salt. This is great, but with such a change, an effort should be made to eat iodine rich foods occasionally. Seaweeds are a great option.

With grains excluded from the Paleo diet, nuts and seeds are popular replacements in Paleo versions of bread, cereals, pies, cakes and other baked goods. They form the basis of many dairy-free milks, flours and nut butters. They’re also incredibly popular and sustaining snacks and salad toppings. While nuts open up a range of previously non-Paleo offerings, they’re nevertheless high in calories and undesirable phytic acid. Consume them mindfully.
I just made these and the dough was WAY more wet than yours. I double checked all the amounts and everything looked good. I wonder if it’s because I’m in AZ and everything is just so much hotter / more melty?? It also could have been because I scooped then leveled the flours into the batter, so maybe it was slightly less flour / more air? Did you do that? Maybe I used a larger egg? Anyway, they turned out a totally different texture than yours but still SUPER delish – I couldn’t stop eating the dough! I always love your recipes thanks SO MUCH for sharing!!! <3 Bri

Sure, there's a bit of debate as to whether true Paleo-ers can have foods like chocolate (which is made with milk solids and sugar). As articulated on Paleo Leap, an online resource for all things Paleo, "In the true sense of whether our Paleolithic ancestors enjoyed [foods like chocolate], the answer is almost always no, but the real question we should ask ourselves is whether they are healthy when consumed in moderation." In essence, it's up to the individual to decide whether or not to include chocolate in their nutritional regime. Paleo-ers who do say yes to chocolate often choose the dark variety -- it tends to be less processed and lower in sugar.
If you’re a big fan of chips, you’ll be happy to know that you don’t have to give them up when following the Paleo diet.  While you may not be able to incorporate your favorite brands from childhood or run by the convenience store for a quick snack bag, fruit and veggie chips are a much healthier and lighter alternative.  Although you can find pricey bags of these types of chips at most grocery stores today, the ingredient list can be questionable.  Compared to the equivalent, make-at-home fruit and veggie chips will provide your body with energizing nutrients.  Here are some recipes for chips that you can feel good about eating:
A number of randomized clinical trials have compared the paleo diet to other eating plans, such as the Mediterranean Diet or the Diabetes Diet. Overall, these trials suggest that a paleo diet may provide some benefits when compared with diets of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, whole grains, legumes and low-fat dairy products. These benefits may include:
Vanilla is the last ingredient in the cookies. (Yep, these almond cookies only have four ingredients. I know! Crazy, right?) You use a generous amount of vanilla extract! Two teaspoons. However, since the almond and maple bring such strong, lovely flavors to the table, the vanilla extract needs a little boost to get noticed. If you don’t love vanilla, reduce it to one teaspoon or omit completely. (If you omit, add two additional teaspoons of maple syrup to the recipe.)
Yes I’m superstitious and so far I did the same thing to my body this time that I did last year. I never had issues training or running halfs so I’m seriously considering my reasons to marathon… I think if it were just me I’d run halfs. So that tells me I’m letting outside pressure get to me for no reason. I’d rather run forever then hang up my laces. Sorry rant over but I’m really happy to make these powerful discoveries:)

Pork rinds aren’t for everyone, but if you’re looking for a salty potato chip alternative, they might be just the ticket. But what exactly are pork rinds? Well, essentially pork rind is the skin of a pig, that when fried, boiled, and/or baked creates a crispy, airy chip-like consistency. Like potato chips, pork rinds also come in a bunch of different flavors, such as BBQ, salt and pepper, and cheese. Make sure to check the ingredients of store bought pork rinds, as only a handful are truly Paleo snacks.
Here’s a three-ingredient kebab combo that’s great to prep ahead of time (and trust us, they keep well enough in the fridge for a next-day snack). Cut chicken breasts into cubes and marinate in Tessemae’s Lemon Garlic Dressing for 1-3 hours. Thread cubes onto a skewer and grill for about 15 minutes, then garnish with fresh parsley. No extra sauce needed.
While they’re technically a fruit, avocados contain monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and saturated fats which provide a good source of energy while lowering ‘bad’ cholesterol and creating healthy skin, hair and nails. However, they’re also full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants including vitamin B’s, C, K, E, copper and potassium to nourish your body and protect it from disease-causing and inflammatory free radicals. Add to all of this goodness with the high level of fiber for a healthy digestive system and you’ve got an incredibly nutritious paleo-approved ingredient to add to almost any meal.
This is a cute snack that can help you cool off on a hot summer day or night, and won’t impact your Paleo eating one bit. That’s because it uses just two ingredients in this sandwich, so it’s just a matter of cutting them up and eating them. The way they’ve presented it makes it a great party dish, because who doesn’t like eating things off of toothpicks. The trickiest part is getting the cucumbers and watermelon to be cut into the same sized squares so that they look good. If you’re just making a snack for yourself you don’t have to be so exact.
Primarily aimed at reducing inflammation, balancing blood sugar and hormones, and increasing cognitive performance, all achieved by improving fat metabolism. Based around the popular “Bulletproof Coffee.” Bulletproof differs from Paleo because of its emphasis on “Bulletproof” supplements and shunning of higher carbohydrate foods like fruit and tubers. The Bulletproof Diet lies somewhere between Keto and Paleo. Check out The Bulletproof Diet by Dave Asprey.
I hate to the bearer of bad news here but I have to tell you that I completely understand your mental tactic in the whole superstitious thing. I do that too, but I call myself a realist, just to avoid the pessimist label. 😉 I always go worst-case scenario in my head and then when things go well, then I’m happy and if everything goes to hell in a hand basket then well, I’m ready for it!

Before starting on your journey to Paleo, perhaps it was common for you to run to the store and grab a box of highly processed, expensive gluten-free crackers thinking gluten-free must equal health.  Now that you know that gluten-free does not always equal healthy, you may feel a bit stumped as to how to incorporate crackers into your diet.  The good news is that making your own gluten-free, grain-free crackers can be a rather easy process.  Most Paleo cracker recipes have very few ingredients and require very little time to prepare.  If you have never been much of a cracker fan, however, replace the cracker recipe ideas listed with some of your favorite finger veggies and enjoy them with some of the Paleo-friendly dips suggested below:
My past four years have been some of the best of my life, and I’ve learned more, grown more, and evolved more from my experiences since stepping foot on the University of Puget Sound campus in 2011 than I have in any other time in my life. I’m not going to get sappy, because let’s be real, I’m sure the closer I get, the more I’ll write about how crazy it feels to be done with this chapter of my life.

I made your cookies and they are great!!! I have been trying different recipes and none of them were just right for me. I did everything by the recipe except one item. When I placed them in the fridge – I decided to try rolling them into a log so that I could just slice and bake and for me – they turned out great and that was so easy to do. Thanks so much for posting this recipe!

Highly versatile and heat-stable, coconut oil is a prized ingredient in the paleo diet due to its high levels of saturated fats. Unrefined (preferably organic) coconut oil contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) that are very easy to digest for quick-release energy that’s difficult for your body to convert to stored fat. It’s also been shown to improve immunity, reduce inflammation and decrease cholesterol levels.
