We made these this afternoon and they were great! My husband is fond of mint with chocolate so instead of chocolate pieces or chips, we used Andes Mints pieces which I have only found at Walmart. We used a 1″ cookie scoop and came out with 30+ cookies. We wanted them a little more crisp, so we cooked them longer than the recipe’s 10 minutes. We did use the Honeyville almond flour which we always have good luck with. Thanks, Rachel–keep on keepin’ on!
Following a Paleo diet can have really terrific benefits for some people. Abstaining from inflammatory grains, eating more protein and enjoying a variety of fruits and veggies can help you lose weight and feel good. But snacking while being Paleo can be confusing at first. When you go down the Paleo snacks road, gone are the go-to crackers and dip, popcorn and even peanut butter. You can always snack on produce, of course, but sometimes you want something that isn’t a handful of nuts or chopped vegetables.
These were absolutely delicious!!! Super quick and easy to make (Start to finish in <20 minutes). These were a big hit in our house. My husband, who was quite skeptical (and wondered why I was ruining good chocolate chip cookies, went back for seconds and thirds! The almond flour gives them a nice nutty flavor. Extra chocolate chips are recommended (increase from 1/2 to 3/4 cup in an entire batch if you like extra chocolate). Vegan friendly and gluten free. Super yummy-make these!!
Juli, I made 5 of your recipes on Sunday. They were all wonderful. On the triple protein burgers I substituted Spicy Italian Sausage for the hot dogs. WOW!!!!! It was awesome….so was the Avocado Chorizo Sweet Potato Skins….that is now my favorite sweet potato recipe! When is the next cookbook coming out? Your first one is being delivered tomorrow…..your favorite recipe?
Ive made a cople of your desserts now and have been SO impressed!!!!! Thank you for these great recipes!! My husband eats Paleo so I wanted to test these out for him today. Between my parents and my 4 yr old son, they ate almost the whole batch!! My dad even loved them and he has been known to eat 6 crispy kremes in one sitting without thinking twice! 😉 I used our blendtec blender to grind some raw almonds into flour (hadn’t tried that before) and with that the cookies came out delicious!! Growing research continues to suggest that eating a diet consisting of mostly whole foods is associated with more weight loss (2,3,4). Not to mention that highly processed foods tend to be higher in added sugar, sodium and trans fats, which research suggests may play a role in increased inflammation and actually counteract your weight loss efforts (5).  
These sweet potato chips do a great job of filling in for regular potato chips. They have the same texture you’re looking for, both as you pick them up and once you put them in your mouth. The sea salt ensures that they’re salty enough to satisfy, and the rosemary gives them a distinct flavor that really plays well with the sweet potato. And of course sweet potatoes bring a lot more to the table in regards to nutrients and fiber, so you’re actually helping yourself along with these rather than with potato chips that will only set you back.
Dairy is something of a contentious food group, even within the paleo community. While Primal folks have long recognized that grass-fed, full-fat organic dairy can provide far more benefits than drawbacks, advocates for the paleo diet are mixed on the subject. Certainly, modern-day dairy production on the mass scale has a lot to answer for, subjecting cows to appalling living conditions and thereby degrading the quality of the milk and dairy products they produce.

These make a great snack because they have a lot going on. There’s sweet potato in them, so you’ve got fiber built into them. They’ve also cut out all grain, using almond meal and coconut flour instead. The sweetness comes from honey, not from the coconut because the coconut is unsweetened. These aren’t sweet enough to be considered a dessert, and they’re billed as supplying energy thanks to the sweet potato they contain. Sweet potato is great as a snack because it is digested slowly and releases energy over a longer time period.

Hi Steve, coconut flour absolutely will not work here because it’s 3x more absorbent than almond flour. You only want to use coconut flour in recipes that call for it because it performs so uniquely. If you had to use coconut flour, you would want to use 1/3 of the amount, but I would recommend using my coconut flour chocolate chip cookies instead, which have been formulated specifically to use that kind of flour.

Dark chocolate is chock-full of antioxidants and rich in good-for-you nutrients like healthy fats, iron, and magnesium. And while you can’t get those benefits from a sugary commercial candy bar, you can get them from these nibs made of pure organic cacao and nothing else. I am thinking to try this at preschool and want a recipe that will cater to all children, with respect to food allergies / sensitivities or parents nutritional wishes. We don’t have an oven, just the electric griddle pan. Thoughts?

This snack has Paleo written all over it. It has just the essential ingredients needed for a fried almond snack, and they’ve made this incredibly simple to follow. Almonds are one of the healthiest nuts you can eat, but sometimes they can get a little boring. By frying them you immediately improve the taste, and since they have you frying them in a Paleo approved oil you will be staying on the Paleo path. Rosemary is an herb that really goes nicely with almonds, but the ghee steals the show in terms of taste, giving the almonds a nice buttery flavor.
OMG! To me, these are the “holy grail” of chocolate cookies and even better because they are paleo! They were so easy to make and better than the usual tollhouse recipe I grew up with. I chopped up the chocolate super fine so when it baked, the cookies came out into flat discs- which I happen to LOVE a cookie like that. So I was very pleased! The best part about paleo baking is that you actually get filled up and even though they are such delicious cookies, I was very satisfied after only eating two. With other cookies made with regular flour, I tend to overeat. Thank you for this recipe. It is absolutely going to be a keeper! I have a feeling this might be one of those recipes I have memorized after a while! 🙂
Hey Nichole! I do not recommend using coconut flour as a substitute for almond flour. Coconut flour absorbs significantly more liquid than almond flour and your cookies would almost definitely turn out dry. If you cannot use Almond flour I’d recommend trying tapioca flour or an all-purpose gluten-free flour although I haven’t tested either option so I cannot guarantee results. Bob’s Red Mill makes an all-purpose paleo baking flour but I am not sure if it has nuts or not. You should be able to substitute sunflower butter but if they can eat cashews I’d more highly recommend cashew butter as a substitution!
As discussed in my article questioning nut consumption on a Paleo diet, macadamia nuts are probably the healthiest nuts available because of their high monounsaturated and low polyunsaturated fat content as well as their low levels of anti-nutrients. They can thus be enjoyed without guilt. This hummus recipe is great with anything where you would normally use regular hummus or Baba Ghanoush.

While healthy fats, proteins, and fruits and veggies are center stage in this eating approach, processed and packaged foods — as well as all grains, legumes, soy, and dairy — are off-limits in the paleo diet. Proponents of this eating approach argue that modern farming practices and food manufacturing create foods in these categories that are bad for our bodies.
Legumes are members of a large family of plants that have a seed or pod. This category includes all beans, peas, lentils, tofu and other soyfoods, and peanuts. Legumes are not allowed on paleo because of their high content of lectins and phytic acid. Similar to grains, this is a point of controversy in the scientific community. In fact, lots of research supports eating legumes as part of a healthy diet because they are low in fat and high in fiber, protein and iron.

I didn’t realize I was on a roll with them until I was editing these pictures and got thinking about the Paleo Brownie Brittle Bark and the Paleo Samoa Cookie Bars. <—- check them out if you haven’t already! These cookies are inspired by the peanut butter cookie with the peanut butter filling. I used almond butter instead, of course, and they came out so good. It’s kind of crazy how much they taste like peanut butter cookies. I do realize it’s a little ironic the my almond butter cookies are shaped like a peanut 😉 You don’t have to make them peanut shape if you don’t want. I’m sure they would work great as circle cookies as well.

Thanks for the suggestions! We loved these so I plan to make another batch and I’ll experiment with the soda. I think I am just sensitive to that taste so pick it up, my husband didn’t at all. Today it was gone so that might be my answer to all things with soda, just wait overnight. Although that will be hard…I tend to try one or three as soon as they are cool enough to hold. I’m trying your double chocolate cookies tomorrow!
The secret to a satisfying snack? Healthy fat, fiber (from fruit and veggies), and protein! Aiming to have this combination during each snack helps keep your blood sugar stable and promotes satiety. An apple is a great (and super easy) snack option. But, take it to the next level and eat it with a handful of nuts or a couple tablespoons of raw nut butter. Apples have a healthy dose of fiber and are loaded with vitamins and minerals. Nut butter contains both protein and healthy fats. Boom.
These red pepper poppers are great for game day snacking, or anytime you get the notion. They do take a bit of time to make, so maybe not the best choice if you are looking for something fast to make to lessen your hunger pangs. These have meat and vegetables in pretty equal amounts, with bacon wrapped around the peppers and chicken breast acting as the stuffing. They kick it up a notch with some red pepper flakes so these will be spicy, bacony, and loaded with flavor. You might need something to dip them in, might we suggest this Paleo friendly Ranch dressing?
The real key to these, as I say in just about every recipe where I call for chocolate, is that chopped is always better than chips. It melts better because the wax in chocolate chips prevents them from saying melted and gooey, and chocolate chip cookies need to be melty and gooey. You can also control the percentage of cocoa in your chocolate by buying it in bars!
I hate to the bearer of bad news here but I have to tell you that I completely understand your mental tactic in the whole superstitious thing. I do that too, but I call myself a realist, just to avoid the pessimist label. 😉 I always go worst-case scenario in my head and then when things go well, then I’m happy and if everything goes to hell in a hand basket then well, I’m ready for it!

I’ve somehow managed to keep baking, and blogging, and photographing, and writing, through every year and step of college. In some ways, I think my college career would have been different if I hadn’t been committed to Bakerita. Bakerita is my totally my creative outlet, and without this outlet, and without being able to chat and connect with all of you…the past few years would’ve been pretty different.
You’ve probably seen plantains at the grocery store; they look like funny bananas. But if you haven’t cooked them yet, you’re in for a treat. My favorite way is this one: slice ’em, fry ’em in coconut oil and sprinkle with cinnamon. They make a sweet alternative to potato chips, but also go really well with main dishes if you need them to do double duty.

My first trick is the combination of flours. The texture is just right, thanks to a blend of almond flour and arrowroot (or tapioca starch). The starchy arrowroot keeps them light and crisp, while the almond flour helps them turn golden and gives them enough body. I love that they fill my house with notes of molasses and zingy ginger. Plus, they freeze like a dream, so you can always bake them ahead of time and pull them out when needed. (Like, every night after you tuck your kids in bed, for instance).

They are made with only a few ingredients so they are pretty easy to make. I made mine by using a piping bag and a large star tip so you don’t need a cookie press unless you already have one or want to buy one. They are like a crisp butter cookie with almost a shortbread texture. The coconut palm sugar is the only sweetener that will achieve a crisp cookie. So don’t try to replace it with Honey or Maple Syrup.
